Responsibilities
- Design, document, and implement clean, robust solutions to complex business problems using strong engineering and business understanding.
- Lead feature design, architecture, code reviews, design reviews, and technical decisions spanning multiple engineers and teams.
- Identify and resolve performance issues, including system scaling and performance testing.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, business stakeholders, program managers, and product managers to define and implement technical solutions.
- Translate business needs into functional requirements and explain technical details to business stakeholders.
- Define, scope, and estimate stories while breaking larger work into tasks for more junior engineers.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, automation, scalability, and maintainability.
- Support monitoring, alerting, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure using cloud-oriented engineering practices.
- Influence engineering standards, processes, priorities, and tradeoffs to support short- and long-term business objectives.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of professional experience delivering quality software, ideally across the full stack.
- Excellent proficiency in an object-oriented language such as Java.
- Proficiency with Java and the Spring Boot framework, including Kubernetes and Docker environments.
- Experience with test automation at unit, integration, regression, and load levels.
- Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, CI/CD and testing tools, and modern infrastructure pipelines.
- Experience with RESTful architecture, microservices, system design, architecture, scaling, and performance testing.
- Experience building services is a plus.
- Experience with cloud technologies, especially AWS.
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and cache-based low-latency system design.
- Familiarity with operations tools, logging, metrics, New Relic, Splunk, and messaging technologies such as Kafka and SQS.
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals.
