Base Salary

$120k - $220k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement dual CPU/GPU hybrid video compression encoder architectures combining software and hardware encoding engines.
  • Develop and optimize video compression algorithms in C/C++, Assembly, Rust, or similar languages.
  • Implement and optimize real-time encoder and decoder pipelines.
  • Analyze and improve codec speed, visual quality, and efficiency across CPUs and GPUs.
  • Implement error handling and conduct benchmarking, debugging, and quality-assurance testing.
  • Develop objective and subjective metrics for evaluating codec performance.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate codec solutions into products using high-level synthesis and FPGA/ASIC design flows.
  • Monitor emerging video standards, compression techniques, and industry trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of video compression theory, including motion estimation, transform coding, MC DCT, VBSMC, entropy coding, and rate control.
  • Experience implementing software and hardware codecs that encode and decode video according to a specific compression format.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog and HLS/C++.
  • Understanding of H.264, H.265/HEVC, H.266, VP9, AV1, and rate-control algorithms.
  • Experience with FPGA, ASIC, DSP, GPU, NVENC, NVDEC, CUDA, Vulkan, or OpenCL implementations.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and experience with SSE, AVX, and NEON SIMD optimizations.
  • Experience with multithreaded programming, performance profiling, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with front-end development for control of performance-critical code.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Backend experience with FFmpeg or GStreamer is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MP4, MKV, or MPEG-TS container formats is a plus.
  • Experience with ML-based video enhancement or compression is a plus.
