Base Salary
$230k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and teams building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Design and implement large-scale, distributed, cloud-native systems with high reliability and performance requirements.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple teams and shape system architecture and long-term technology direction.
- Collaborate with digital product managers, architects, and product leaders to deliver cloud-based solutions and define platform roadmaps and shared-services strategy.
- Mentor engineering community members and contribute to internal and external technology communities.
- Establish coding standards, design patterns, observability practices, reliability practices, and enterprise-wide technical standards.
- Lead cross-functional engineering efforts and large-scale technical initiatives while using modern AI-based coding tools and interactive AI productivity tooling.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 6 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, 9+ years coding in multiple listed languages, and extensive experience with open-source frameworks, front-end frameworks, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, version-control systems, and automated testing frameworks.
- Preferred experience includes mentoring senior engineers, troubleshooting cloud environments, using observability to optimize distributed-system performance, leading architecture reviews, enforcing coding standards, and implementing reliability practices at scale.
- Preferred experience includes influencing technology strategy, leading cross-functional engineering initiatives, and using AI-based coding tools beyond basic code completion.

- Full-time annual base salary ranges vary by location: $209,000–$238,500 in Richmond, VA and $229,900–$262,400 in McLean, VA.
- The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including potential cash bonuses and long-term incentives.
