Responsibilities
- Build internal tooling, services, and APIs for engineers to provision, change, migrate, and troubleshoot databases, topics, and caches safely.
- Automate upgrades, migrations, access requests, backups, and restores.
- Operate and harden production data stores and participate in the on-call rotation.
- Partner with product engineering teams on schema design, migrations, query performance, and ORM usage.
- Manage infrastructure as code with Terraform and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Improve observability by instrumenting stateful systems and building actionable alerts.
- Use generative AI to build and maintain internal services, including agentic services.
- Promote reliability, safe change, security, and platform adoption practices.
Requirements
- Production-quality backend engineering experience in Python, Go, Java, or another general-purpose language.
- Experience building services and APIs, testing shipped software, and participating in code reviews.
- Production experience with relational databases, including schema design, migrations, query optimization, and indexing.
- Understanding of retries, idempotency, consistency trade-offs, and distributed-system failure modes.
- Solid AWS experience, including IAM, RDS, and networking fundamentals.
- Experience managing infrastructure with Terraform.
- Experience building and maintaining delivery pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions.
- Experience instrumenting production systems, writing actionable alerts, participating in on-call, and handling incidents and blameless postmortems.
- Experience building internal tools such as CLIs, APIs, and automation for other engineers.
