Responsibilities
- Act as the senior-most technical authority for implementation on the Risk Screening platform.
- Lead implementation of complex and business-critical changes using hands-on Java expertise, including concurrency, performance tuning, memory management, and API design.
- Define, implement, and validate non-functional requirements covering latency, throughput, scalability, reliability, and resilience.
- Guide AWS cloud scaling, capacity management, autoscaling, workload management, resource utilization, availability, cost efficiency, and compliance.
- Optimize large databases and data stores, including data access patterns, performance, and operational scaling.
- Solve complex system-level technical problems and support engineering teams with technical decisions and trade-off analysis.
- Identify operational risks, scaling limits, and reliability concerns, and drive improvements in monitoring, alerting, incident prevention, and resilience.
- Partner with Site Reliability Engineering, platform, and operations teams to improve system operability and reduce customer impact.
- Conduct deep technical reviews covering performance, security, reliability, testing, deployment, and operational readiness.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads and influence engineering standards and culture through technical leadership.
Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Principal Engineer or equivalent senior technical role on large-scale production systems.
- Deep hands-on expertise in Java, with Java 11+ preferred, including JVM behavior, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Strong practical experience building and operating systems on AWS, including real-world operational trade-offs.
- Proven ability to implement and operate distributed systems at scale, particularly systems requiring strong performance and scalability.
- Strong experience with large databases or data platforms, including performance tuning and operational management.
- Strong understanding of production operations, including incident management, observability, and reliability engineering.
- Ability to influence and guide teams through technical credibility rather than formal authority.
