Site Reliability Engineer, Strategic Defense

Responsibilities
- Provision bare-metal servers at scale using PXE boot, kickstart, BMC/iDRAC, firmware, STIG hardening, and Kubernetes handoff.
- Operate self-managed Kubernetes clusters using RKE2, k3s, and Talos across on-premises and edge environments.
- Design software and data delivery for disconnected, intermittent, bandwidth-constrained, air-gapped, and classified networks.
- Deploy updates across network boundaries using cross-domain solutions and data diodes.
- Debug failures across Linux, networking, and Kubernetes and lead root cause analyses and postmortems.
- Write Python and Bash automation and manage infrastructure as code.
- Install and support systems at customer sites, including frequent travel and working as the only engineer on site.
Requirements
- Currently possess and be able to maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
- Have 3-8+ years of hands-on infrastructure, systems, or site reliability engineering experience.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of Linux processes, system calls, memory, file systems, inodes, systemd, permissions, and SELinux.
- Understand networking fundamentals including TCP/UDP, DHCP, DNS, routing, VLANs, and firewalls.
- Understand Kubernetes internals including Services, kube-proxy, CNI, DNS, scheduling, resource requests and limits, and storage, and be able to debug with kubectl.
- Write Python and Bash from scratch for log and text parsing, file and process handling, retries, and error handling.
- Preferred experience includes air-gapped, classified, or security-hardened networks; edge and disconnected distributed systems; mesh networks, store-and-forward, peer distribution, and QoS.
- Preferred experience includes infrastructure as code and GitOps with Terraform, Ansible, ArgoCD, or Flux, with Nix as a plus.
- Preferred experience includes Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and OpenTelemetry observability stacks.
- Preferred knowledge includes image signing, PKI, certificate authorities, LUKS, FIPS, and platform or supply-chain security.
- Ability to read, debug, and modify Go, Python, Rust, or C++ software.
