Base Salary
$130k - $185k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define technical strategy and architectural direction for Passport’s cloud services across multiple subsystems and workflows.
- Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives from problem framing and design through implementation, rollout, and operational follow-through using Go and Python.
- Establish reusable cloud-native service standards and patterns across AWS and GCP.
- Make tradeoffs involving reliability, scalability, latency, security, cost, and time to market.
- Identify systemic risks and architectural gaps and drive mitigation efforts.
- Partner with engineering, test, research, and product teams on roadmaps and new capabilities.
- Lead technical reviews and align stakeholders on design, migration, and ownership decisions.
- Participate in critical incident response, on-call coverage, monitoring improvements, runbook development, and deployment-quality initiatives.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and hands-on collaboration.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience building backend services and APIs, or equivalent practical depth.
- Demonstrated Staff-level impact leading significant technical initiatives across multiple services or domains.
- Strong hands-on experience with Go, Python, or similar languages, plus foundations in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and Linux-based development.
- Deep experience designing and operating cloud-native systems in AWS or GCP, including S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and IAM.
- Experience owning highly available systems, including deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and operational improvement with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience influencing technical standards, architecture, or roadmaps across team boundaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to document decisions and build alignment.
- Preferred experience with Redis, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, authentication, identity, fraud prevention, observability, large-scale migrations, reliability programs, cost and capacity optimization, internal platforms, developer tooling, reusable engineering patterns, or adjacent UI and product experiences.
