Responsibilities
- Track Linux Kernel developments and identify features relevant to Arista products and internal development.
- Develop and maintain EOS kernel features and tests using C, C++, and Python.
- Build automated tests and test infrastructure to validate kernel features.
- Qualify CPUs, NICs, and other kernel-dependent hardware components for integration into Arista products.
- Integrate new Linux Kernel versions into EOS and internal development environments.
- Contribute kernel features to the upstream Linux community and mainline code base.
- Analyze and fix customer-network and system-test problems in collaboration with support and test engineers.
- Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools.
- Mentor new and junior engineers.
- Own software projects from definition through deployment and ensure delivery quality.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; or MS plus 6 years; or Ph.D. plus 3 years; or equivalent work experience.
- Expert knowledge of and extensive experience programming in C.
- Knowledge of C++ and Python is desirable.
- Significant hands-on experience troubleshooting, debugging, and developing Linux kernel features.
- Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation.
- Familiarity with the upstream Linux community patching process and procedures.
- Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
- Applied understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, software design, and implementation skills.
- Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
- Ability to work independently and in small teams and communicate and document designs clearly.
Benefits
- Base pay range of $120,000 to $195,000 annually across Canada.
