Responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction, architecture decisions, sequencing, and delivery of the data platform.
- Support and develop a team of 4–5 engineers through technical mentorship, delivery support, and culture building.
- Own and evolve the data lake, data foundations, semantic layer, data governance, and broader data infrastructure.
- Lead adoption of streaming technologies and apply strong data modeling practices across the team.
- Prioritize and mediate with product stakeholders while advocating for appropriate technical decisions and work sequencing.
- Advance the self-service data platform model and distributed data ownership approach.
- Collaborate with the broader staff engineering community on cross-cutting architectural decisions.
Requirements
- Proven Staff Engineer-level or equivalent experience in a data engineering context.
- Strong architectural understanding of data platforms, including data lakes, data foundations, data governance, and orchestration.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, with hands-on exposure strongly preferred.
- Solid data modeling skills and the ability to establish team-wide standards.
- Experience working with large-scale datasets.
- Proficiency in Python and comfort working across a modern data stack.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including roadmap negotiation and constructive prioritization.
- Product-minded engineering judgment and the ability to balance technical rigor with pragmatic prioritization.
- Leadership experience or demonstrated ability and ambition to guide engineers and drive delivery.
- Preferred: experience with data governance for AI agents, self-service data platforms, distributed data ownership, or product-led SaaS environments.
