Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Austin, TX
Trend MicroResponsibilities
- Design and implement features across the on-premises Connector, cloud Relay, and Controller services.
- Own one or more Controller microservices, including rule engine, geolocation, event workers, proxy paths, and connector management.
- Diagnose and resolve production performance issues involving memory pressure, CPU saturation, latency hotspots, and autoscaling.
- Write architecture proposals and design documents and drive them through peer and architect review.
- Investigate complex production support cases involving customer environments, interoperability issues, and alternative technical solutions.
- Contribute to the AI-augmented development pipeline by defining autonomous work, human gates, and required validation for a security product.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience building production backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go or an adjacent systems language such as Rust or C++, plus willingness to work across Go, Python, and C/C++.
- Experience operating software in customer environments, including on-premises services, marketplace images, update mechanisms, and long-tail version compatibility.
- Hands-on production debugging using metrics, profiling, and autoscaling with HPA or KEDA.
- Linux internals experience with systemd, namespaces, and networking sufficient to debug customer-hosted software.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, TLS, proxies, NAT, and firewalls.
- Experience using an agent harness in real engineering work and directing, reviewing, and validating its output.
- Excellent written communication and the ability to produce design documents that withstand review.
- Preferred: experience with ZTNA, SASE, SSE, VPN, or other network security products.
- Preferred: distributed systems experience involving consistency, retries, idempotency, partial failures, and multi-region services.
- Preferred: production experience with Microsoft Azure; AWS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure experience is a plus.
- Preferred: experience with CI/CD and supply-chain practices including signed releases, SBOMs, and reproducible builds.
- Preferred: experience designing or operating an LLM-powered production system such as a RAG or agentic workflow.
- Preferred: experience driving architectural decisions across multiple services and mentoring or elevating peers.
