Base Salary
$182k - $259k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement semantic and hybrid search capabilities using OpenSearch, BM25, vector search, and neural search.
- Evaluate and fine-tune search relevance, ranking models, k-NN configurations, and neural search settings.
- Maintain, scale, and evolve data ingestion and indexing pipelines using MySQL, messaging tools, and backend microservices.
- Lead the Search team’s technical roadmap and establish engineering best practices.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through complex architectural decisions.
- Ensure ultra-low latency, high availability, and reliable performance under high-concurrency production traffic.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience with technical leadership or staff-level experience.
- Deep hands-on experience building, scaling, and tuning OpenSearch or Elasticsearch clusters at scale.
- Proven experience implementing semantic search with text embeddings, vector databases, and hybrid search scoring models.
- High proficiency in a strongly typed language such as GoLang, Scala, or Java, plus experience with PHP.
- Strong experience with relational databases, schema design, and distributed messaging tools for high-volume data mutation and indexing.
- Familiarity with the OpenSearch Neural Search plugin, k-NN search, or Learning to Rank.
- Experience migrating large-scale search infrastructure from traditional Elasticsearch configurations to OpenSearch semantic implementations.
- Experience establishing automated search-quality measurement frameworks such as NDCG and MRR.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes in a cloud environment.
