Responsibilities
- Design and build agentic ML systems that learn from ongoing user and environment interactions.
- Develop shopper agents, merchant agents, and smart infrastructure for bot detection and order management.
- Run applied research experiments from problem framing and data analysis through model design, training, and evaluation.
- Build proofs of concept and help harden promising approaches for production on Commerce Cloud.
- Collaborate with Commerce Cloud engineering, product, and research teams to ship features.
- Evaluate current ML and AI research for applicability to commerce problems.
- Communicate findings through internal writeups, demos, and relevant external publications.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building, training, and evaluating machine learning models.
- Strong foundation in one or more of reinforcement learning, deep learning, optimization, causal inference, or operations research.
- Proficiency in Python and standard ML tooling such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with ambiguous, open-ended problems.
- Ability to move quickly from ideas to working prototypes.
- A PhD, completed or in progress, in Applied Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related field is preferred.
- A strong record of published basic or applied AI research is preferred.
- Experience with agentic or multi-step decision-making systems is preferred.
- Experience applying ML to commerce, marketplaces, recommendation systems, fraud, or bot detection is preferred.
- Familiarity with e-commerce platforms or large-scale retail and commerce systems is preferred.
- Open-source contributions or a public body of work is preferred.
