Responsibilities
- Design and validate multi-node, multi-GPU distributed training templates.
- Create operational runbooks for failure modes, checkpointing, and recovery.
- Establish performance benchmarks covering throughput, step time, and scaling efficiency.
- Optimize distributed data-loading pipelines to remove I/O bottlenecks.
- Define AI engineering standards for naming, experiment tracking, model registries, and reproducibility.
- Develop GPU quota rules, priority tiers, and job templates with IT for the Kubernetes/Run:AI platform.
- Build reusable fine-tuning pipeline templates for models and scientific AI workloads.
- Optimize training code for NVIDIA GPUs and collaborate with NVIDIA on hardware-specific improvements.
- Coordinate with Discovery scientists, IT engineers, global AI Engineering, and other AstraZeneca departments.
Requirements
- 5+ years of production-grade model training and inference experience using PyTorch.
- 5+ years of experience with software development practices and tools including Jira, Git, and the software development lifecycle.
- Proficiency establishing AI/ML engineering standards for teams.
- Hands-on experience with GPU workload optimization and multi-node training.
- Experience with Kubernetes job scheduling, including Kubeflow, Slurm, Run:AI, or an equivalent platform.
- Ability to work full-time in Beijing.
- Preferred experience with molecular simulation, protein folding, drug discovery, or protein structures.
- Preferred experience delivering code through coding agents and using parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods.
- Preferred AWS China or Alibaba Cloud experience.
- Desirable experience improving transformer-based models, distributed deep learning training, and NVIDIA GPUs such as H20 or H100-series GPUs.
- Desirable experience serving multiple science groups across organizational boundaries.
