
Senior Software Engineer, Elixir

Responsibilities
- Own complex distributed-system features end to end across satellite command and control, mission planning, mission data processing, and data analysis systems.
- Drive architectural direction for Elixir/OTP systems, including fault tolerance, concurrency, clustering, state management, and scalability patterns.
- Identify and resolve technical debt, reliability risks, performance bottlenecks, and distributed-system issues.
- Set code-quality and testing standards through implementation, rigorous code review, and reference-quality code.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing, design discussions, and constructive code review.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, backend, space operations, and astrodynamics engineering teams on system-wide architecture.
- Break complex work into iterative increments, document technical decisions, and improve team onboarding and shared knowledge.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software development experience.
- Expert-level Elixir and OTP knowledge, including BEAM internals, scheduling, process architecture, supervision strategies, and runtime characteristics.
- Deep experience designing resilient, fault-tolerant distributed systems and service architectures at scale.
- Hands-on experience with ExUnit, property-based testing, and integration testing for distributed systems.
- Fluency with gRPC, REST, and WebSocket-based services, including API design and integration debugging.
- Ability to work across the stack, understand infrastructure constraints, and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
- Experience with Git-based workflows, high-quality commits, pull requests, and collaborative code review.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility for DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance.
- Preferred: bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar discipline.
- Preferred: technical-lead or primary-backend experience on products with real users and production constraints.
- Preferred: experience with real-time systems, large-scale data processing, mission-critical operations, OAuth2, role-based access controls, PostgreSQL, observability, and distributed tracing.
