Responsibilities
- Own the long-term architecture and technical direction for core data platform capabilities, including reliability, cost efficiency, and adoption.
- Design and build foundational platform components across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, compute, and data consumption.
- Establish multi-tenant platform standards, cross-layer contracts, tenant isolation, and SLOs while improving compute and storage efficiency.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives and architecture reviews, influence platform strategy, and mentor senior engineers.
- Remain hands-on in code and solve the team’s most difficult technical problems.
- Partner with analytics teams, data engineers, and data scientists to identify platform gaps and build needed capabilities.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software or data engineering experience, including at least six years building data platform infrastructure.
- Experience building and operating a data platform or significant production component such as an ingestion, transformation, compute, query, orchestration, metadata, lineage, or data quality framework.
- Ability to explain the scale of operated systems using concrete metrics such as data volume, throughput, pipelines, query performance, tenants, and infrastructure cost.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and big data challenges, including partitioning, shuffle behavior, skew, idempotency, and backfills.
- Experience designing batch and streaming architectures and selecting appropriately between them.
- Expert programming ability in Java, Kotlin, or Python and experience building solutions on public cloud offerings such as Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with Spark, DBT, and open table formats such as Iceberg or Delta Lake.
- Track record of owning ambiguous cross-team problems end to end and influencing without authority.
- Bachelor-level degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with StarRocks, Druid, ClickHouse, Pinot, change data capture, high-volume event-driven ingestion, semantic layers, metrics stores, ML platform data foundations, data governance, access control, lineage, compliance, FedRAMP, Kubernetes, and multi-region data architectures.
