Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and operate secure, scalable, observable, and fault-tolerant data ingestion pipelines and inbound/outbound interfaces.
- Build Python- or Scala-based extraction services and integrate source systems including SAP, Salesforce, SharePoint, APIs, files, and legacy manufacturing platforms.
- Implement CDC, delta, event-based, push-based HTTP, and Kerberos-authenticated data transfer patterns.
- Develop reusable, version-controlled platform components, APIs, backend data catalog services, metadata management, and Unity Catalog integrations.
- Design structured data access request workflows with approvals, audit trails, enablement triggers, discoverability, previews, and lineage.
- Establish data quality frameworks with unit, integration, and cross-pipeline validation, centralized rules, monitoring, severity levels, filtering, and quarantining.
- Ensure interface security, documentation, compliance, auditability, and traceability while collaborating with cybersecurity, infrastructure, architecture, business, and source-system teams.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex source integrations and translate stakeholder needs into scalable technical patterns.
Requirements
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field is required.
- 5–8 years of software development experience with hands-on inbound and outbound data exchange interfaces, APIs, CDC, and endpoint management.
- Hands-on experience with Scala or Java, Python, advanced SQL, and Git in collaborative software development.
- Experience building robust ingestion pipelines and ETL jobs in a software engineering context.
- Experience with Azure or another hyperscaler and resource management.
- Familiarity with data lakes, data warehousing, Databricks, and Azure is a plus.
- Backend or software engineering experience with Java, Scala, or distributed systems is welcomed, including candidates transitioning into data platform engineering.
- Experience primarily limited to notebook-based processing, dashboarding/analytics/BI, or SQL-only work without software engineering is not a fit.
- Ability to collaborate across geographies, time zones, and enterprise stakeholder groups.
