Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and connect it to critical business-impacting projects.
- Design tooling, automation, and processes that scale cost governance across cloud and AI infrastructure.
- Build cost visibility, alerting, anomaly detection, dashboards, and self-service systems for cloud and AI spend.
- Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, infrastructure, and platform leaders on technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
- Own team operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
- Set code review and design standards and advocate for engineering quality through writing and technical talks.
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
- Influence cost strategy and turn ambiguous spending questions into durable systems and self-service tooling.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Experience building dashboards, anomaly detection, or savings and waste reporting with a FinOps or cost-visibility platform such as FinOut, CloudHealth, Kubecost, or an internal equivalent.
- Experience building scalable, self-service automation or tooling with Python, Terraform, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience working with cloud billing and cost data at scale, including AWS Cost & Usage Reports and Snowflake or similar data warehouses.
- Strong SQL skills for modeling spend, allocating costs, and creating unit-economics views from raw billing data.
- Experience delivering major features or system components, deprecating existing functionality, and creating technical and execution plans.
- Ability to write high-quality, understandable code and work from low-level language details through large-system architecture.
- Strong record of gathering and applying feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
