Senior Member of Technical Staff - SMTS
AthenahealthResponsibilities
- Design and develop backend applications and services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build scalable services that integrate with internal platforms, data stores, and dependent services.
- Deploy and enhance cloud-based solutions on AWS with attention to reliability, security, observability, and performance.
- Implement APIs, service integrations, and asynchronous processing for high-volume transactional workflows.
- Troubleshoot production issues, analyze root causes, and improve service stability and quality.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical designs, engineering standards, release planning, deployment validation, monitoring, and documentation.
- Optimize application and system performance and improve scalability and operational efficiency.
- Guide implementation decisions, share technical knowledge, and support sound engineering practices.
- Contribute to backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, CI/CD improvements, monitoring, alerting, and operational readiness.
- Evaluate automation opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Use AI tools appropriately for implementation exploration, technical-context summarization, test-idea generation, and code understanding while validating outputs.
Requirements
- 4 to 9 years of software engineering experience in backend development, distributed systems, or related application development.
- Hands-on production experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing, developing, and supporting microservices architectures in production.
- Working knowledge of AWS services and cloud-native deployment patterns.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with service-based systems.
- Understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming, testing, debugging, and version control.
- Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to analyze technical issues, communicate clearly, and contribute practical, maintainable solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
