Responsibilities
- Architect, evolve, and govern highly available, resilient, secure enterprise database platforms across AWS and GCP.
- Lead reliability, performance, scalability, lifecycle management, and modernization of Microsoft SQL Server platforms toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native database services.
- Design automation for database provisioning, patching, backup validation, failover testing, and routine maintenance using Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
- Implement database release automation, CI/CD pipelines, schema versioning, and environment standardization with Platform Engineering.
- Optimize database design, query performance, schema evolution, and deployment strategies for cloud-native and microservices-based applications.
- Establish database observability standards covering telemetry, logging, alerting, and performance analytics.
- Define reliability objectives and recovery strategies, lead root cause analyses and post-mortems, and drive permanent corrective actions after incidents.
- Author engineering standards, reusable automation modules, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate database and data-tier technologies, align roadmaps with business goals, lead cloud migrations, mentor engineers, and influence technical strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience designing, supporting, and managing enterprise relational database platforms in production.
- Extensive experience with public cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with incident response, root cause analysis, SRE initiatives, schema versioning, release automation, and database DevOps.
- Experience mentoring engineers, influencing enterprise technical standards, and leading migrations from legacy databases such as SQL Server to cloud-native or open-source platforms.
- Experience supporting cloud-native applications, Kubernetes, or containerized workloads is preferred.
- Microsoft SQL Server certification or equivalent experience is required.
- AWS or Google Cloud Professional, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Terraform Associate, ITIL Foundation, or SRE-related certifications are preferred.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration, engine internals, high availability/disaster recovery, performance engineering, PostgreSQL, cloud architectures, Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation.
- Advanced scripting or programming ability with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent languages, along with advanced SQL query tuning and distributed data-systems troubleshooting.
- Experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry is preferred.
