Base Salary
$160k - $291k/yr
Responsibilities
- Identify and design realistic collision-avoidance and collision-detection scenarios using replay simulations of logs and synthetic simulations of third-party accident reconstructions.
- Develop validation strategies for Automated Emergency Braking through simulation and structured testing.
- Identify gaps in simulation and public-road testing and design structured scenarios using relevant NHTSA or NCAP standards.
- Support models that quantify risk in scenarios with a non-zero probability of collision.
- Author test and residual-risk reports and recommend improvements to simulation realism, test realism, and autonomy architecture.
- Support the safety case by identifying, documenting, and communicating collision-avoidance and simulation or test-realism claims.
- Collaborate with onboard and offboard software engineering, test operations, data science, evaluation infrastructure, simulation, and leadership teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, physics, or a related field.
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving and coding experience, preferably with Python or C++.
- Experience designing simulation-based evaluation suites and scenarios for autonomous vehicles using well-defined behavioral metrics.
- Experience developing collision metrics, data analytics, evaluation tooling, or CI/CD test pipelines for quantifying robot performance.
- At least 5 years of relevant technical work experience, including at least 3 years in robotics software.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering concepts involving requirements, verification, and validation.
- Experience developing collision metrics for self-driving vehicles is preferred.
- Experience with structured or physical testing of robots or vehicles is preferred.
- Experience writing safety claims and system requirements for SAE L3/L4 systems is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with STPA and ISO 21448 is preferred.
