Base Salary

$195k - $408k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate core components of a large-scale real-time distributed decisioning system with strict latency requirements.
  • Own specific subsystems end to end, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, on-call, and long-term evolution.
  • Develop a working model of a complex production system and make high-leverage contributions to its architecture and tooling.
  • Diagnose and resolve timing-, statistics-, and concurrency-related issues in a multi-region distributed system.
  • Partner with engineers and applied scientists on distributed systems and statistical or ML-driven decision-making.
  • Mentor engineers and raise standards for engineering rigor, testing discipline, and operational excellence.
  • Drive alignment and communicate with engineering, product, business, and technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale, low-latency distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of complex systems, including design, implementation, operations, on-call, and iteration from production feedback.
  • Strong command of Java and foundations in algorithms, data structures, concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization.
  • Practical experience with distributed caching, high-throughput messaging or streaming systems, and SQL/NoSQL datastores.
  • Experience operating cloud infrastructure at scale using GCP or AWS.
  • Experience evolving and refactoring live, business-critical systems without compromising uptime or correctness.
  • Exposure to statistical, control-theory, or ML-driven techniques in production decision-making systems is preferred.
  • Real-time bidding or ad-tech experience is preferred, with adjacent experience in trading, ranking/recommendation, matchmaking, risk, or fraud systems also valued.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools in production work.
  • Strong ownership, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity.
