Senior Database Engineer
State StreetResponsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, performant, highly available distributed database solutions.
- Create and maintain database designs, data models, configurations, processes, and related documentation.
- Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to support application development.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, tuning, monitoring, and bottleneck analysis.
- Define performance-test strategies and develop tools to generate synthetic datasets for repeatable testing.
- Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Troubleshoot production database issues with the production DBA team and maintain database health, data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
- Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.
- Provide technical leadership on database technologies and data modeling.
- Collaborate with engineering, SaaS operations, support, implementation, product, QA, and sales teams.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior database engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS databases.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Architect or in a similar role supporting enterprise applications.
- Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer.
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning in MS SQL Server.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting database-related issues.
- A strong track record of building high-performance, production-quality software on schedule.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt quickly to change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise with hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies is preferred.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is preferred.
- Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database is preferred.
- At least 7 years of experience working with an Agile development methodology is strongly desired.
- Financial-markets application experience, including areas such as fixed income, trading, FX, risk, portfolio or wealth management, market data, or FIX, is a plus.
