Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, performant, highly available distributed database solutions.
- Create and maintain database designs, data models, configurations, processes, and related documentation.
- Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for application development.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, tuning, monitoring, bottleneck analysis, and remediation.
- Define performance-test strategies and develop tools to generate synthetic datasets for repeatable testing.
- Implement and manage database access controls, encryption, auditing, data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
- Troubleshoot production database issues with the DBA team and perform installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.
- Provide thought leadership on database technologies and data modeling.
- Collaborate with engineering, SaaS operations, support, implementation, product, QA, and sales teams.
- Mentor junior database engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS databases.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Architect or in a similar enterprise-application role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer.
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning with MS SQL Server.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and multitasking skills.
- A strong record of building high-performance, production-quality software on schedule.
- Expertise with hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies is preferred.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is preferred.
- Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years working with an Agile development methodology is strongly desired.
- Financial-markets application experience is a plus, including fixed income, trading, FX, risk, portfolio or wealth management, market data, and FIX.
