Responsibilities
- Own and operate the Data Privacy Orchestrator, including its core engine, safety mechanisms, preview and dry-run capabilities, audit trail, deploys, on-call, and observability.
- Build documentation, templates, libraries, and self-service tooling that allow teams to manage their own data lifecycle rules.
- Align legal, security, data, and product teams on privacy requirements and deletion-ordering trade-offs.
- Extend platform coverage across data stores and third-party systems as Alan expands into new countries.
- Write, deploy, monitor, and operate production code, primarily using Python and TypeScript.
- Shape the roadmap for GDPR-compliant data lifecycle management and improve platform safety, observability, and developer experience.
Requirements
- Senior or staff-level backend or platform engineering experience with evidence of deep production ownership; Alan is hiring at level E or above.
- Experience building and operating platforms, libraries, or services that other engineers depend on.
- Ability to work across teams and influence legal, security, data, and product stakeholders without direct authority.
- Hands-on experience writing code, shipping it to production, and handling rollouts, alerting, on-call, and incident response.
- Strong communication and design skills, including framing documents, dependency mapping, and alignment on technical decisions.
- Pragmatic approach to delivering safe solutions under constraints and improving them over time.
- Privacy, GDPR, data-governance, or enabling/platform-team experience is a strong plus.
- Fluency in English; French is not required.
- Deep legal expertise is explicitly not required.
