Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and improve robust and scalable software systems for Nium’s card issuance capabilities.
- Lead the design and planning of technical and product initiatives and make engineering decisions aligned with business objectives.
- Act as a subject matter expert and set standards for code quality, engineering practices, and delivery processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software and own team output and quality standards.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, project leadership, training sessions, and technical talks.
- Identify technical challenges, skill gaps, and process inefficiencies and lead improvements.
- Communicate technical decisions and standards clearly while fostering transparency and shared ownership.
- Participate in recruitment and provide feedback on candidate competencies.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of experience designing and building robust, scalable software systems.
- Deep expertise in Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills, including performance tuning and query optimization.
- Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs and familiarity with OpenAPI documentation.
- Experience or familiarity with MySQL, Postgres, Kafka, Zookeeper, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with version control, build configuration, and automation tooling.
- Proficiency with unit testing frameworks and a commitment to automated and manual testing.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering methodologies and delivery processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship within a collaborative team.
