Responsibilities

  • Design, build, maintain, and improve robust and scalable software systems for Nium’s card issuance capabilities.
  • Lead the design and planning of technical and product initiatives and make engineering decisions aligned with business objectives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and set standards for code quality, engineering practices, and delivery processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software and own team output and quality standards.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, project leadership, training sessions, and technical talks.
  • Identify technical challenges, skill gaps, and process inefficiencies and lead improvements.
  • Communicate technical decisions and standards clearly while fostering transparency and shared ownership.
  • Participate in recruitment and provide feedback on candidate competencies.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of experience designing and building robust, scalable software systems.
  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
  • Strong SQL and relational database design skills, including performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs and familiarity with OpenAPI documentation.
  • Experience or familiarity with MySQL, Postgres, Kafka, Zookeeper, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with version control, build configuration, and automation tooling.
  • Proficiency with unit testing frameworks and a commitment to automated and manual testing.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering methodologies and delivery processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship within a collaborative team.
