Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and operate scalable Java-based backend systems for Walmart’s Marketplace and Cross Border Trade platforms.
- Write and review production code and designs while applying Java, distributed-systems, cloud, microservices, and event-driven architecture expertise.
- Lead complex debugging, performance tuning, JVM analysis, memory management, and garbage-collection optimization.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects and partner platform teams to define technical roadmaps and technical solutions.
- Mentor engineers, elevate team capabilities, and promote technical excellence and independent execution.
- Present architectural designs and strategic technical solutions to organizational groups and leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus four years of software engineering experience, or six years of software engineering experience.
- The position summary also requests an engineering degree and describes 10+ years of deep, hands-on software engineering experience.
- Expertise in modern Java, JVM internals, J2EE, multithreading, concurrency, and functional programming.
- Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems with scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability.
- Strong command of distributed NoSQL and SQL databases, asynchronous messaging, and event-driven architectures such as Kafka.
- Hands-on experience with cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and containerization.
- Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and operations.
- Influential communication skills and the ability to explain technical challenges and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred: a relevant master’s degree plus two years of software engineering experience.
