Senior Tax Systems Engineer (Vertex)

Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end implementation and enhancement of Vertex tax solutions across Finance and Revenue systems.
- Configure and optimize Vertex O Series tax engines, including rules, jurisdictions, rates, exemptions, certificates, and reporting.
- Design and build integrations between Vertex and ERP, billing, revenue recognition, and order management systems.
- Define tax data flows, transaction mappings, and reconciliation controls across systems.
- Translate regulatory and business requirements into scalable technical solutions with Finance, Tax, Revenue Operations, and Engineering teams.
- Troubleshoot tax calculation issues, integration failures, and financial data reconciliation discrepancies.
- Establish API contracts, payload structures, error handling, monitoring, and other integration standards.
- Drive performance, scalability, compliance, audit readiness, documentation, and SOX controls where applicable.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience implementing and supporting Vertex tax solutions in enterprise environments.
- Deep expertise in indirect tax, including Sales and Use Tax, VAT, GST, cross-border taxation, exemptions, and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Vertex configuration covering rules, jurisdictions, rates, exemptions, certificates, and reporting.
- Experience integrating Vertex with ERP, billing, and revenue systems through REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, or custom frameworks.
- Understanding of Quote-to-Cash and Record-to-Report processes.
- Strong engineering foundation in API design, data mapping, JSON/XML transformations, and secure integrations.
- Experience with integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Informatica.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across tax, integration, and financial data flows.
- Experience working with Agile environments, CI/CD, and Git version control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance Systems, or a related field.
- Preferred: experience with Vertex in SaaS or subscription businesses, RevPro and billing platforms, global tax architectures, compliance and audit processes, financial system governance, and enterprise data or reporting platforms.

- Base salary is stated as $148,500–$223,900 annually, or $178,900–$246,000 annually in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas; bonus, equity, and other incentives may also apply.
