Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and operate critical components of large-scale distributed database platforms.
- Own significant features and components from requirements and technical design through production support.
- Write production-grade software and participate in design and code reviews.
- Solve complex problems involving storage, transactions, replication, distributed consensus, partitioning, geo-distribution, and high-concurrency systems.
- Improve system scalability, latency, availability, reliability, and infrastructure efficiency.
- Diagnose complex production issues across software, storage, networking, and distributed-system boundaries.
- Build prototypes and conduct performance benchmarks for new designs, algorithms, and technologies.
- Collaborate with engineers, technical leads, product managers, architects, and customers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Contribute to engineering practices involving testing, observability, automation, deployment, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Provide technical guidance through design discussions, reviews, documentation, and collaborative problem solving.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and open-source solutions for use in NuData’s architecture.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development velocity while maintaining correctness, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 6+ years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience building large-scale software systems.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, developing, and operating distributed systems, databases, storage systems, or large-scale data infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of replication, consistency, partitioning, fault tolerance, high availability, and distributed consensus.
- Strong database and storage fundamentals, including storage management, write-ahead logging, transactions, concurrency control, indexing, caching, and query processing.
- Understanding of transaction management, isolation levels, locking, crash recovery, replication, failover, network partitions, partial failures, and RAFT/PAXOS consensus protocols.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, operating systems, and software design.
- Strong programming ability in one or more of C++, Java, Python, Scala, or equivalent languages.
- Experience with object-oriented design, distributed programming, and relational or NoSQL databases.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern infrastructure or cloud-native environments.
- Ability to independently own significant software components and features from design through production.
- Ability to analyze complex performance and production issues across multiple system layers.
- Strong communication, documentation, architecture, technical-design, and global collaboration skills.
- Experience building production-grade software with AI coding agents and providing them with appropriate context, specifications, constraints, and validation criteria.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex to deliver complex production-quality software.
