Responsibilities

  • Develop maintainable, fast, scalable Java and Scala services from product requirements and designs.
  • Design, debug, document, test, and evaluate full-cycle software solutions.
  • Evolve existing architecture and deliver robust near-term and long-term technical solutions.
  • Solve complex problems involving GIS, weather data, scientific algorithms, and massive real-time datasets.
  • Perform primarily backend development with occasional frontend work.
  • Analyze systems, requirements, operating feasibility, and proposed solutions, recommending alternatives when needed.
  • Provide work estimates, document solutions, and coordinate projects, milestones, and goals with business and project teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and teach or support other team members as required.
  • Improve operational processes and stay current with development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment.
  • Develop weather-data products for insurance companies and other enterprise customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of related experience in full-cycle software development with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in software design, debugging, documentation, and testing at a subject matter expert level.
  • Mastery of server-side concurrent programming on the JVM.
  • Experience with GIS or weather datasets and systems.
  • Familiarity with HTTP-based data exchange and large-scale, high-use applications in Windows and Unix environments.
  • Proficiency in performance testing and tuning services and applications, SQL, and preferably Cassandra.
  • Functional proficiency with AWS, Spring, Unix, JSON, REST, AJAX, and Maven.
  • Ability to lead and teach others, coordinate projects, communicate effectively, and resolve moderately complex business problems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software development processes, lifecycle development, and Agile methodology.
