Responsibilities
- Own technical design and delivery for IBM i initiatives, including secure, resilient, and supportable solutions.
- Provide technical direction through coding standards, design reviews, estimation, prioritization, and delivery leadership.
- Lead root-cause analysis for major incidents and implement permanent fixes and problem-management improvements.
- Provide L3 production support and technical oversight for L2 teams, including on-call and major-incident support.
- Work with DB2 for i on SQL, performance tuning, indexing, locking, journalling, data modeling, and troubleshooting.
- Apply IBM i operational concepts including subsystems, job queues, output queues, work management, and scheduling.
- Implement exception handling, logging, recovery, monitoring, alerting, retries, and other operational-resilience patterns.
- Own release readiness, deployment planning, back-out strategies, post-release validation, and production sign-off.
- Enable and consume REST/JSON integrations and ensure they are observable and supportable.
- Build Python automation for migration, operational tasks, reconciliation, reporting, and validation.
- Lead technical delivery activities including refinement, estimation, sprint planning, and continuous improvement.
- Support IBM i modernization, service enablement, refactoring, hybrid integration, data migration, and test automation initiatives.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on IBM i, iSeries, or AS400 experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong development experience with RPGLE (Free) and CLLE; COBOL is a plus.
- Strong DB2 for i expertise, including SQL, performance tuning, data modeling concepts, and troubleshooting.
- Proven production-support, troubleshooting, major-incident, and root-cause-analysis experience.
- Solid understanding of exception handling, resilience patterns, and operational controls.
- Working knowledge of REST, JSON, authentication basics, and integration concepts.
- Python scripting and automation experience.
- Experience leading data migration programs, including ETL, reconciliation, and cutover.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts or practical AIOps use cases.
- Familiarity with IBM i application modernization, DevOps practices, Git, automated testing, and service enablement is preferred.
- Strong analytical and communication skills for translating complex technical issues into clear actions and decisions.
