Responsibilities
- Define and own long-term technical architecture and critical build-versus-buy decisions.
- Design and build resilient core infrastructure services and microservices for machine learning, frontend, and platform teams.
- Write high-performance, maintainable production code across the stack.
- Drive engineering outcomes in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Align architecture with reliability, engineering velocity, infrastructure costs, customer acquisition, retention, and time-to-market.
- Mentor senior engineers and promote engineering excellence and rapid innovation.
- Identify system and business gaps, propose solutions, align stakeholders, and drive execution.
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience with progression into a Principal or Senior Staff Engineer capacity at a high-growth technology company or top-tier AI lab.
- Strong hands-on coding ability and deep system-design skills, with the ability to make both code-level and system-level architecture decisions.
- Proficiency in a programming language and ability to adapt to new languages; Kubernetes, Python, Go, PostgreSQL, and data lakes are preferred.
- Proven distributed-systems experience involving performance, scalability, latency, optimization, and monitoring.
- Ability to connect engineering decisions to business outcomes such as latency improvement, margin efficiency, and rapid product launches.
- Experience integrating or critically evaluating AI tools and workflows in engineering processes, work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving.
- Strong ownership, initiative, stakeholder alignment, and ability to execute at startup pace.
- Preferred: contributions to major open-source AI or infrastructure projects.
- Preferred: experience working with Product and Growth teams in an early-stage startup.
