- Set the vision, design, and shared GenAI platform covering LLM and workflow orchestration, prompt management, RAG pipelines, search and retrieval, and evaluation tooling.
- Build self-service interfaces and golden paths that enable product and CUJ engineering teams to ship GenAI-powered features.
- Own AI capability delivery from architecture and interface design through production deployment, monitoring, and operational optimization.
- Ensure platform capabilities meet standards for correctness, latency, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Develop platform practices including versioning, contracts, SLAs, monitoring, deprecation paths, responsible AI patterns, and operational health.
- Use Strava’s fitness and geospatial datasets to support actionable insights and novel athlete experiences.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, ML engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to define and execute the GenAI roadmap.
- Lead technical direction across teams and mentor engineers at multiple levels.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating complex production AI or backend systems at scale.
- Experience building AI platform tooling or developer-facing infrastructure for LLM or ML systems, including API design, versioning, and self-service patterns.
- Hands-on production experience with large language models, agentic workflows, prompt and context engineering, RAG architectures, embedding pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, or LLM evaluation frameworks and tools such as LangChain.
- Proficiency with search systems such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, and vector search.
- Proficiency in backend service development in cloud environments, preferably AWS, using Python and Go.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and containerized infrastructure including Kubernetes and Docker.
- Ability to lead multi-team projects, define technical direction, and grow engineers at multiple levels.
