Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate internal developer platform and DevOps capabilities across AWS and GCP.
- Develop and manage an internal developer portal using Backstage, including custom plugins, the Software Catalog, and Scaffolder templates.
- Build and operate Kubernetes platforms, cluster lifecycle processes, workload onboarding patterns, ingress, service discovery, and secrets/configuration management.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code and reusable infrastructure modules using Terraform, Crossplane, and CloudFormation as needed.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, build/test/release automation, artifact repositories, and environment deployment strategies.
- Implement GitOps and deployment automation for Kubernetes and cloud workloads using tools such as Argo CD and Flux.
- Configure observability with Datadog, including monitoring, dashboards, APM, distributed tracing, alerting, and centralized logging.
- Apply SRE practices involving SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, incident response, runbooks, and on-call readiness.
- Develop automation and platform tooling using Python, Go, Bash, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Apply DevSecOps practices including secrets management, vulnerability scanning, least privilege, supply-chain controls, signing, SBOMs, and automated policy enforcement.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders while treating the internal developer platform as a product.
- Work at least 10 days per month from an eligible office location and travel up to 10%.
Requirements
- Extensive experience delivering and operating cloud platforms in AWS and GCP, including compute, storage, networking, IAM, and managed Kubernetes.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing an internal developer portal, preferably with Backstage.io.
- Expertise developing custom Backstage plugins and customizing platforms with TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, EKS, GKE, Terraform, Crossplane.io, and cloud infrastructure management.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI/CD and familiarity with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Bitbucket Pipelines.
- Experience managing software artifacts and dependencies with JFrog Artifactory.
- Experience with GitOps and deployment automation patterns using Argo CD or Flux.
- Strong programming or scripting ability in Python, Go, Java, Shell, or Bash, plus strong Linux fundamentals.
- Experience with Datadog and full-stack observability, including monitors, dashboards, APM, and distributed tracing.
- Understanding of SRE principles, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, reliability, scalability, performance, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Knowledge of web development fundamentals, API design, REST, GraphQL, Git, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
- Systems and network fundamentals including VPC/VNet design, DNS, routing, load balancing, proxies, firewalls, certificates, and TLS.
- Experience integrating services and tools through APIs and secure communication patterns across applications, databases, and platforms.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, least privilege, software signing, SBOMs, and automated policy enforcement.
- Preferred experience on a dedicated Platform Engineering or Developer Experience team and contributions to Backstage or other open-source developer tools.
- Preferred familiarity with securing CI/CD pipelines, secure coding practices, and product-oriented internal platform development.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
