Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain clean, efficient, and scalable backend services in Node.js and TypeScript.
- Develop product features from concept through deployment in collaboration with product managers and frontend engineers.
- Own key areas of backend architecture and make decisions that improve performance, reliability, and security.
- Write comprehensive unit tests and conduct code reviews.
- Identify system improvements and refactor legacy code when needed.
- Mentor teammates and share technical expertise.
- Work across checkout, donor portals, analytics pipelines, and other parts of the product ecosystem.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend development experience, preferably in a product-driven environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and modern frameworks such as Koa or NestJS.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, including advanced typing and module systems.
- Solid experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis.
- Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or similar analytics databases and Elasticsearch.
- Strong understanding of system design, clean architecture principles, and performance optimization.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and complete projects.
- Comfort working within a Russian-speaking team.
- Experience in a remote-first, globally distributed team is preferred.
- Experience with performance monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog is preferred.
- Interest in the nonprofit technology sector is preferred.
- Ability to communicate complex technical and analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Meaningful current use of AI tools and understanding of where AI can add value in day-to-day work.
