Base Salary
$160k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement reliable, scalable, and secure Openflow control-plane and data-plane features.
- Build and contribute to distributed systems supporting high-throughput, low-latency batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Deliver small projects end to end and contribute to medium-sized projects with guidance and support.
- Operate services through monitoring, on-call participation, incident response, post-incident reviews, and reliability improvements.
- Apply clean code, testing, observability, security, and documentation practices.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and design partners to clarify requirements, plan technical work, and communicate progress and risks.
- Analyze and improve service and pipeline performance, scalability, and reliability using metrics, profiling, and experimentation.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, knowledge sharing, and mentoring interns or onboarding engineers.
- Contribute to shared tooling and patterns for building, deploying, and operating connectors and runtimes.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of industry experience building and operating backend or platform services, including distributed systems.
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and systems design, with practical production application.
- Experience with concurrency, replication, partitioning, streaming, and fault tolerance.
- Understanding of operating systems and networking, including multithreading, memory management, storage, and performance debugging.
- Proficiency in Java or a similar object-oriented language such as Scala, Go, or C++, plus experience in large shared codebases.
- Experience building cloud-native services on at least one major cloud provider, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Track record of delivering maintainable solutions to complex engineering problems while balancing speed, reliability, and simplicity.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across locations and disciplines.
- BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience building and shipping distributed systems.
- Bonus experience with data integration, observability, streaming or flow technologies such as Apache NiFi, Kafka, Flink, or Airflow, or with analytics and data platforms.
