Responsibilities
- Own and redesign billing services covering usage metering, charge calculation, invoicing, payments, and underlying data models.
- Own the Stripe integration, including subscriptions, Billing Meters, and enterprise invoicing edge cases.
- Build automation for failed-payment recovery, collections, proration, plan changes, credits, refunds, and disputes.
- Collaborate with Core, Platform, and Dashboard engineers to obtain billing data and define data contracts.
- Partner with Finance on payment reconciliation, revenue reporting, and audit readiness.
- Make architectural decisions regarding observability, testing, and security.
- Answer customer questions about invoice details and billing behavior.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with billing systems and deep expertise in Go.
- Understanding of metric collection, metered usage, pay-as-you-go models, and billing cycles, with the ability to translate finance requirements into well-tested code.
- Strong API design skills, including REST or RPC, contracts, and versioning.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, migrations, and data at scale.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization, server-side performance, and real-time data flows using WebSockets or SSE.
- Experience with charging logic, collections, billing automation, billing data flows, complex invoicing, SKUs, usage- and contract-based billing, and third-party payment platforms.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills, particularly with Finance.
- Ability to own systems end to end, work autonomously, and navigate ambiguity independently.
