Responsibilities
- Research, prototype, and ship core components of the geospatial engine.
- Solve computational geometry and performance problems across tens of millions of parcels and nationwide infrastructure data.
- Build across DuckDB, Arrow/GeoArrow, file-based spatial indexing, and an OLTP-backed data lake.
- Evaluate geospatial embeddings and foundation models for potential product use.
- Set standards for correctness and performance in production spatial systems.
- Own ambiguous problems end-to-end and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly in writing.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building data-intensive software in a similar role.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, graph theory, and time and memory analysis.
- Fluency in a systems or backend language.
- Experience building performant, correct backend systems and reading query plans.
- Experience with DuckDB, Apache Arrow, or comparable columnar or analytical data systems.
- Comfort with open-ended research, prototyping, production hardening, and ambiguous problem ownership.
