Responsibilities

  • Implement well-defined software features, user stories, and bug fixes under senior engineer guidance.
  • Develop and maintain user interfaces, APIs, and backend logic.
  • Write clean, documented, maintainable code following County standards and accessibility and security policies.
  • Perform unit and integration testing, participate in peer code reviews, and apply test-driven development where applicable.
  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA analysts, operations, infrastructure, data, support, and release teams.
  • Support version control, build, deployment, CI/CD processes, defect tracking, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, design reviews, pair programming, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, document solutions, and communicate task status, estimates, blockers, and technical challenges.
  • Contribute to usability, performance, maintainability, process-improvement, and knowledge-sharing efforts.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Three years of work-related software development experience.
  • Knowledge of one or more of JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#.
  • Knowledge of Git version control, software testing, SQL, databases, front-end or back-end frameworks, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, frameworks, and libraries and work collaboratively in an evolving technology environment.
  • Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, AWS Developer Associate, a similar cloud certification, or Certified Scrum Developer or equivalent Agile certification.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, maintain a good driving record, and provide a 10-year driving history.
  • May need to pass and maintain eligibility for a national fingerprint-based records check when accessing criminal justice databases.
