
Senior Software Engineer
MorningstarResponsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain high-quality software solutions aligned with customer and business needs.
- Review application performance and upgrade applications as required.
- Plan and implement new requirements and lead operational and technical projects.
- Build REST-based APIs and contribute hands-on coding across backend systems.
- Document and demonstrate solutions using documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
- Plan, estimate, schedule, and staff engineering tasks.
- Evaluate new technologies and vendor packages and make recommendations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and participate in interviewing, recruiting, and hiring.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, senior management, and engineering leadership.
- Apply development, estimation, planning, reporting, and process-improvement best practices.
Requirements
- 4-6 years of experience with Python and AWS.
- Experience building REST-based APIs with Python and frameworks such as Flask or Django.
- Ability to write unit and integration tests using pytest.
- Experience processing files in different formats and capturing data with Python.
- Knowledge of Python libraries used to secure applications.
- Knowledge of object-relational mapping, such as SQLAlchemy, and database techniques using Python libraries.
- Experience with DevOps tools such as Splunk, Git, uDeploy, Jenkins, and Control-M is desirable.
- Experience with Agile software engineering practices.
- Experience with backend XML, relational, and file-based databases such as SQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Netezza, and HDFS.
- Experience developing and deploying solutions using the Amazon AWS ecosystem, including Lambda, EC2, RDS, and EMR.
- Java experience is preferred.
