
Embedded Software Engineer - Real-Time Linux

Responsibilities
- Design, adapt, and integrate POSIX-compliant systems for robotics and machine learning applications.
- Develop frameworks integrating controls, machine learning, and supporting algorithms with real-time tasks.
- Collaborate with controls and machine learning engineers to optimize autonomous systems.
- Develop and maintain drivers for real-time robotic middleware.
- Build tools to monitor, verify, and optimize system performance for reliable and deterministic behavior.
- Contribute to deterministic and reproducible build and test environments.
- Support functional safety standards compliance, audit readiness, and traceability.
- Develop OTA updates, calibration management, and software deployment strategies.
Requirements
- An MS in computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline is required.
- Production experience with Linux PREEMPT_RT and similar real-time operating systems such as QNX is required.
- Strong understanding of Linux device trees, scheduling, and memory management is required.
- Experience with multicore ARM SoCs, interprocess and intercore communications, and message passing is required.
- Proficiency in C and C++ is required.
- Experience with ROS 2 middleware and alternatives such as FastDDS, CycloneDDS, and Zenoh is required.
- Familiarity with container technologies, runtimes, and related concepts such as Docker, Containerd, and Overlayfs is required.
- Understanding of compilers, linkers, debuggers, and static analysis tools is required.
- Familiarity with Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, or CANOpen is preferred.
- Knowledge of ARM SIMD/NEON architecture extensions is preferred.
- Proficiency in Python, Rust, or Golang is preferred.
- Expertise with Bazel or Bob is preferred.
- Experience with QNX Hypervisor, Jailhouse, or Xen is preferred.
- Understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration tools is preferred.
