Responsibilities
- Lead development of complex features across microservices, owning backend services and their frontend experiences.
- Design, build, and maintain serverless, event-driven, streaming, and message-based data pipelines for high-volume scientific data.
- Build asynchronous, non-blocking services and APIs that scale reliably under load.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and advocate for architectural improvements.
- Collaborate with engineers to build intuitive user interfaces for complex scientific research workflows.
- Provide technical guidance through code reviews and pair programming.
- Implement observability and participate in production deployment and monitoring.
Requirements
- 8+ years of engineering experience, preferably in a SaaS environment.
- Strong commercial experience with Node.js backend services and React frontend applications.
- Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL and relational database design.
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, asynchronous programming, and distributed systems; Kafka experience is preferred.
- Production experience with AWS services.
- Experience using Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Experience with complex data ingestion or processing workflows, messaging bots, Terraform, multi-cloud systems, technical mentoring, or Life Sciences/R&D data management is advantageous.
