Responsibilities
- Define SLOs, SLIs, error-budget policies, and instrumentation standards for Tier-1 customer-facing services.
- Design and establish incident command procedures, severity criteria, war-room protocols, stakeholder communications, and postmortems.
- Select and implement the primary observability platform and develop dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and operational KPIs.
- Establish the SRE on-call model and coordinate coverage and handoffs with IBM and HCL managed services partners.
- Command Sev-1 and Sev-2 incidents, lead blameless postmortems, and drive remediation work to completion.
- Contribute production code and infrastructure as code, oversee CI/CD pipeline evolution, and administer and scale Kubernetes platforms.
- Run chaos and failover exercises to validate platform resilience.
- Architect and evaluate AIOps capabilities including anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated root-cause analysis, and LLM-assisted runbooks or triage.
- Coach an Engineer III SRE, design future SRE roles, participate in interviews, and represent SRE in architecture, launch-readiness, and executive reviews.
- Partner with Product Engineering, Platform Engineering, Enterprise Security, Compliance, Architecture, Customer Support, and managed service providers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, including at least 4 years in an SRE, DevOps, or platform reliability role.
- At least 2 years of formal technical leadership, tech-lead, or staff-level experience with mentorship responsibilities.
- Experience building an SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering practice from zero or near-zero, including SLOs, incident command, and error budgets.
- Deep hands-on expertise with at least one major public cloud, including networking, IAM, and managed services.
- Strong CI/CD pipeline design and management experience and infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in Python or another object-oriented programming language for automation, tooling, and production services.
- Experience administering and scaling Kubernetes clusters with secure and compliant configurations, plus working knowledge of Docker, Helm, and service mesh technologies.
- Hands-on experience designing observability platforms and real incident command experience for customer-impacting Sev-1 events.
- Experience coaching and mentoring junior or mid-level engineers and communicating technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to operate in regulated environments involving HIPAA and SOC 2.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, healthcare or regulated-industry experience, AIOps or LLM-based automation experience, hybrid hardware-and-cloud experience, stateful Kubernetes services, security scanning or intrusion detection, Kafka or RabbitMQ, chaos engineering, Databricks, Team Foundation Server, Octopus Deploy, and FinOps.
