Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize production-grade C++ software across the Secondary Driving System stack, integrating ML-based perception, tracking, prediction, planning, and controls.
  • Design and implement motion planning and control algorithms for lane keeping, obstacle avoidance, shoulder lane changes, and controlled stopping in Minimal Risk Maneuver scenarios.
  • Define and implement interfaces with state estimation, mapping, localization, and autonomy management teams to support reliable system engagement after primary-stack failures.
  • Own features through requirements clarification, design reviews, implementation, simulation/HIL bring-up, on-road testing, metrics analysis, and iteration.
  • Apply software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, performance profiling, and observability.
  • Debug integration issues across perception, planning, controls, and vehicle behavior using logs, telemetry, and experiments.
  • Partner with Safety and Systems Engineering on functional safety, redundancy, and fail-operational requirements.
  • Mentor and unblock engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and example implementations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience building production systems in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex real-time/control systems.
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++, including experience with large, multi-contributor codebases, and familiarity with Python for tooling, prototyping, and data analysis.
  • Experience with motion planning and controls, including trajectory generation and tracking, optimal or model-predictive control, trajectory optimization, feedback control, and kinematic and dynamic constraints for ground vehicles.
  • Experience integrating perception and prediction pipelines involving object detection, tracking, prediction, and lane or road geometry.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver reliable autonomous or robotics software with testing strategies, metrics, and performance tuning under latency and compute constraints.
  • Strong communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Passion for automated driving and robotics and for improving safety and driver experience.
  • Preferred: experience with ROS or similar robotics middleware.
  • Preferred: experience with safety-critical software or functional safety teams.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience with GPU or accelerator-based ML inference, model deployment, and production performance optimization.

Benefits

  • Health and wellbeing benefits including medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, and Flexible Spending Accounts.
  • Retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation and holidays, tuition assistance, and employee assistance program.
  • GM vehicle discounts and additional Total Rewards programs.
  • Remote work arrangement; employees living within a specified radius of a GM hub are expected to report onsite three times per week or at another frequency set by their manager.
  • Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
