Responsibilities
- Own Java and Spring Boot services through design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and production operation.
- Design domain events, event processors, service integrations, idempotency behavior, retries, ordering, and eventual-consistency boundaries.
- Extend shared platform libraries for authentication, asynchronous tasks, and common infrastructure.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Drive performance, reliability, query optimization, distributed-flow debugging, and capacity planning.
- Create technical design documentation, conduct code reviews, make architectural decisions, and mentor mid-level engineers.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers on features crossing into the Next.js application.
Requirements
- 5+ years of senior-level Java engineering experience with proven production ownership.
- Strong production experience with Spring Boot, including transactional boundaries, connection pools, classpath issues, JVM tuning, and load-related failures.
- Strong distributed-systems knowledge, including asynchronous messaging, idempotency, retries, ordering, eventual consistency, and bounded contexts.
- Experience with event-sourcing design patterns and domain-driven design.
- Experience with contract-first API design using OpenAPI or an equivalent.
- Deep PostgreSQL experience with schema design, indexing, query plans, and migrations under load.
- Production experience running services on Kubernetes, including deployments, manifests or Helm, and production debugging.
- Hands-on experience with a major public cloud; Google Cloud Platform is preferred, with AWS or Azure accepted alongside willingness to move to GCP.
- Strong unit, integration, and contract testing experience.
- Extensive experience translating business requirements into technical requirements.
- Track record of mentoring and raising engineering standards.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Preferred: production experience with Spring Cloud GCP, Cloud Pub/Sub, or Cloud Run; reusable internal libraries or Spring Boot starters; React or Next.js; and IP management, legal-tech, or regulated B2B SaaS domains.
