Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and roadmap for mobile development tooling, including simulator and emulator setup, device orchestration, and CLI tools across iOS and Android.
- Lead the mobile test automation framework for synthetic, integration, and end-to-end testing across platforms.
- Define CI/CD quality-gating strategy and improve mobile build systems and feedback loops.
- Align Native Infra, Cross Platform, and DevX around a cohesive mobile workflow system.
- Define and publish mobile testing standards, best practices, and methodologies across Canva.
- Create company-wide triage workflows and monitoring for mobile development and testing quality signals.
- Scope and deliver complex technical projects spanning multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Mentor and grow the team while helping attract and assess mobile engineering talent.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in at least one mobile platform, iOS with Swift or Android with Kotlin, plus working knowledge of the other platform.
- Hands-on production experience with React Native or a comparable cross-platform mobile framework at meaningful scale.
- Experience building or significantly shaping a mobile test automation framework, with evidence of adoption by other teams.
- Experience defining quality-gating strategy or improving CI/CD pipelines, including mobile build systems or device-farm integration.
- A track record of delivering complex, cross-team technical projects at scale.
- Ability to drive technical direction and alignment without direct authority.
- Experience creating technical documentation and practices that become references for other engineers.
- Ability to balance long-term strategy with immediate delivery needs.
- Experience with BrowserStack, Firebase Test Lab, or similar cloud device-testing platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with Bazel-based monorepo CI/CD environments at scale is preferred.
- Experience migrating between mobile paradigms, such as WebView to native or web-first to cross-platform, is preferred.
- Background in internal advocacy or technical communication across engineering organizations is preferred.
