Base Salary
$136k - $229k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the architectural vision and scalable standards for eBay’s Federated GraphQL platform, including schema design, composition, and execution.
- Build governance frameworks for schema quality, enterprise security, API performance, and sustainable platform adoption.
- Design and evolve gateways, query optimization layers, caching strategies, and observability capabilities for global scale and reliability.
- Guide product and engineering teams through federation adoption with architectural consultation, developer enablement, and hands-on mentorship.
- Evaluate GraphQL, REST, and gRPC strategies and recommend patterns that improve resilience, usability, and developer experience.
- Establish API architecture standards and influence technical alignment across business units and collaborators.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience designing backend architectures for large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with microservices and asynchronous event-driven environments.
- Strong understanding of API and schema design, with hands-on experience in GraphQL Federation, GraphQL APIs, REST, and/or gRPC.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in defining architectural standards, influencing cross-functional partners, and communicating complex concepts clearly.
- Proficiency in Java with Spring Boot and/or Node.js, plus familiarity with JVM and JavaScript/TypeScript-based service environments.
- Experience with cloud-native infrastructure and modern software delivery practices, including Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability, and platform reliability.
- Ability to balance scalability, security, and developer ergonomics and deepen expertise in GraphQL Federation.
