Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate high-throughput, event-driven, multi-tenant backend services and the interfaces on top of them.
Own integrations with external messaging providers, supporting pipelines, and provider onboarding costs.
Maintain correctness, observability, availability, encryption, regulatory compliance, and running costs across the platform.
Lead the technical design of larger workstreams and decompose them into independently executable work.
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
Set and uphold engineering standards for design, testing, and operational readiness.
Own architecture and technical direction while representing the team in cross-team discussions.
Contribute to technical evaluations of external providers and technical hiring.

6+ years of experience building and operating production backend services with distributed, event-driven architecture.
Strong proficiency in at least one server-side language: Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, or C#.
Strong React and TypeScript skills with production experience owning user-facing, real-time, or event-driven interfaces.
Strong experience designing APIs and data models used by other teams.
Demonstrated experience leading the design and delivery of workstreams spanning several engineers.
Experience mentoring engineers and raising a team’s technical bar.
Ability to make, defend, and revise architectural decisions based on evidence.
Accountability for code produced with AI assistance as well as code written by others.
Preferred experience with messaging, CPaaS, communication platforms, third-party provider integrations, multiple backend ecosystems, AWS, streaming platforms, multi-tenant SaaS, regulated systems, reliability engineering, observability, cloud cost optimization, and platform evolution.
