Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex Java and Python applications for the FTSE Russell Index Platform.
  • Architect and enhance distributed, performance-critical services supporting large-scale index computations.
  • Build and integrate AI-powered features and intelligent solutions using LLMs, LangChain, LangGraph, and agentic AI frameworks.
  • Establish engineering practices for safe, scalable, traceable, production-ready AI deployments.
  • Lead projects end-to-end across requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
  • Build automated test suites for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Diagnose production issues, identify root causes, and provide Level 3 support and fixes.
  • Conduct peer reviews, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
  • Expertise in Core Java and Python.
  • Strong algorithms, data structures, problem-solving, and high- and low-level software design skills.
  • Experience building highly distributed, data-intensive systems and working with microservices and REST APIs.
  • Experience with RDBMS technologies including Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab and DevOps automation.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, JVM profiling, and performance optimization.
  • Prior Level 3 production support experience.
  • Preferred: experience leading or mentoring engineers.
  • Preferred: financial services or financial market data experience.
  • Preferred: familiarity with in-memory caching, Spring Boot, Redis, or Kafka.
  • Preferred: experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, JBehave, or Karate.
  • Preferred: Scrum Master experience or experience running Agile teams.
