$232k - $258k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for AIFX’s multi-day agentic software factory workflows.
- Define Uber’s long-term strategy for AI-assisted planning, coding, review, verification, and release.
- Prototype, design, and ship critical AI developer-platform components hands-on.
- Partner with platform and product engineering organizations to establish standards across codebases and workflows.
- Set evaluation, reliability, and cost standards for AIFX systems.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads, lead design reviews, and represent Uber with industry and model-provider partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating large-scale backend services or developer platforms in production.
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript.
- Experience setting technical direction for multi-team or organization-wide projects from inception through operations.
- Preferred: experience shipping LLM-powered agents or developer tools to production at scale and defining evaluations such as golden datasets, LLM-as-judge, and online experiments.
- Preferred: experience with agent harnesses and protocols including Claude Code, Claude Agent SDK, Codex, OpenCode, and MCP.
- Preferred: experience with workflow orchestration or durable execution systems such as Cadence or Temporal.
- Preferred: experience defining multi-year developer-infrastructure strategy and gaining cross-organizational leadership support.
- Preferred: recognized technical leadership through mentoring, talks, open source, or publications.
Benefits
- Base salary range for San Francisco-based roles is USD $232,000-$258,000 per year.
- Eligible for Uber’s bonus program and may be offered equity and other compensation.
