Responsibilities
- Design and ship features in backend services using Java and Spring Boot and/or web services using TypeScript, with AI services in Python or TypeScript where appropriate.
- Own APIs and event-driven flows handling money, receipts, and policy decisions at company scale.
- Build and extend LLM-backed agents with tool use, grounding, streaming, session memory, retrieval, and evaluations.
- Improve document extraction and auto-itemization for quality, tax-field accuracy, latency, cost, and provider failover.
- Instrument production systems with observability, quality dashboards, satisfaction metrics, and extraction accuracy tracking.
- Partner with Product and Design on employee, administrator, and mobile AI experiences.
- Review financial-system implementations for idempotency, auditability, permissions, and safe handling of partial writes.
- Mentor others and write technical designs for distributed teams.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of software engineering experience, including internships or strong academic or personal projects.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and backend experience with Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/Node.js, or Python.
- Experience with APIs, relational databases, and cloud platforms.
- Exposure to LLMs, chatbots, retrieval-augmented generation, document processing, or AI-assisted development.
- Interest in financial or workflow-heavy products such as payments, expenses, accounting, or tax.
- Understanding of testing, debugging, and production-quality engineering, along with good communication and willingness to learn.
- Preferred experience includes Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Kafka, event-driven architecture, OCR, financial workflows, multi-currency systems, policy engines, AI agents, or evaluation tools.
- Based in Berlin or London, or willing to relocate.
