Base Salary
$131k - $164k/yr
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve WDL workflows running on AWS Batch and AWS HealthOmics.
- Lead the transition to Nextflow while operating new and existing workflows on shared tooling and infrastructure.
- Own the team’s AWS infrastructure managed as code in Terraform.
- Improve reliability, reproducibility, observability, testing, monitoring, and alerting across compute environments.
- Build internal tooling that reduces manual work and supports production issue triage.
- Partner with science leads and data scientists to bring new methods into production pipelines and review their changes.
- Coordinate handoff readiness with the production organization.
- Enable scientists to run and debug their own pipeline work without engineering support.
Requirements
- Degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field, or equivalent depth gained through work experience.
- At least four years of software or pipeline engineering experience, preferably in life sciences, sequencing, or production-adjacent environments.
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a system operated in production.
- Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals, including testing and debugging.
- Experience with at least one workflow system such as Snakemake, CWL, WDL, Nextflow, or a similar system.
- Real cloud experience, ideally AWS, including infrastructure-as-code management.
- Solid Linux, container, and version control experience.
- Experience building and continuing to use an AI-assisted workflow, including explaining its impact and effectiveness.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar tools quickly and communicate clearly through actionable documentation.
- Direct WDL or Nextflow experience and familiarity with AWS Batch or AWS HealthOmics are preferred.
